EASTSIDE RESEARCH GROUP

A youth-driven, community-led thinktank for and by Black and minority young people

Our mission

As a social purpose organisation, ERG’s mission is to educate, advocate and inspire young people to be confident in creating their futures as assertive, active citizens. Our primary focus is on Black and minority youth for whom social and economic disadvantage is an everyday reality. We work with them to grow leadership potential and instil the skills and knowledge to develop a self-image of social and economic competence.

Our vision

Eastside Academy was set up in 2002 with a vision to develop a new generation of leaders in business, politics, community and public life. We are the embodiment of that vision – young, gifted and black. We aspire to a world where black and minorities actualise their social and economic potential; that means they will shape society for good and model the reality of an inclusive Greater Britain.

Our approach

Whatever you do for me - without me - you do to me

By harnessing the intrinsic energy, youth and leadership capacity of the EYLA alumni community as its primary membership, we are centring the intrinsic owners who will be empowered to generate change. We provide young people like ourselves with a unique platform to develop individual and collective leadership. We are unique in combining the best of a traditional thinktank in producing influential research and recommendations, with a youth-driven and community-led approach to creating change within British Black and minority youth communities.

Our work

Research and thought leadership is our primary function, we also provide a community support function for young Black leaders. We do this through the provision of regular events, communications and a virtual community. Our community events support awareness-raising, career development, network development and community leadership development.
